Lovely but feeling a bit peckish!
A difficult one. I've used the Rice Thai several times before and had a really good experience, and this time wasn't bad at all, but I've left feeling like I've had a starter and now need a main course. It seems to have split into two half's with new premises next door, and I have a feel I may have gone into the wrong half. I wanted my usual weeping tiger steak, but that wasn't on the menu in the new Tapas Fusion half - why Tapas Fusion? - trying to be too trendy and the music didn't help. Don't mind a bit of background music but this was too loud - we don't all have the same music taste. Weeping tiger was gone but a small number of dishes put together as Thai Tapas fusion. Had no idea what to order or how many but thought if I start with three and maybe add some more, though at three the bill was heading for the lions share of £50 from the prices on the menu, including a beer. Anyway the food came, and was delicious, no doubt, but the portion was so small, a few mouthfuls and it was gone. I was tempted to order more but I thought blimey I could clear £70 here and it's just me! Asked for the bill though and when it came I barely spent £25. Although I still think it should have been more from the prices on the menu, it seems I had a 20% discount, if only I'd known! Lovely people and lovely food, but confusing. And honestly, Thai food stands perfectly well in it's own right, especially with a chef with the skill their's obviously has. Doesn't need all this Tapas Fusion trendy business school stuff. What can I say! Rice Street Fusion has landed on St Cuthberts and it’s absolutely fantastic. The brainwave of Rice Thai’s owner, Nurul — he’s expanded into the premises next door and is now serving up Thai Street Fusion. And wow… what a taste explosion! We shared all of this between four of us (not a single complaint): • Grilled Chicken Taliwang • Tom Yum Soup • Iga Bakar Beef Ribs • Som Tam • Grilled Sea Bass • Nasi Goreng • Udon Drunken Noodles • Penang Curry • Korean Chicken To top it off, they even brought out Mango & Sticky Rice to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Lovely clean restaurant - both sides - with excellent food

A bit less good than previous times
Went back to rice thai after recent refurb. We were in the newer section which is nice. Staff was helpfull and with many suggestions. Mixed meat started was great but chicken was a bit bland. Hope it will be again better next time

wonderful meal
What a fabulous meal we had here last week . Rice has been extended from the rather cosy one room restaurant it used to be, to a spacious comfortable restaurant next door. The Thai menu was excellent value and the mixed starter was delicious . We hadn't eaten there for quite a few years and we shall definately be going again sooner rather than later. Fantastic all round experience
Great restaurant that never fails to impress. The depth of flavour in all dishes is amazing, the new renovation is a great addition to the business. Beef vampires nightmare is a favourite, the main meal that comes inside of the hollowed out pineapple is fantastic. The new incentive to roll x2 dice and get x2 6's for a free meal is a great game. Tantalising Thai
Another fantastic meal at Rice to celebrate our anniversary ! The starters of tempura prawns and grilled aubergine were both spot on – light, fresh, and full of flavour. Our mains of red Thai curry and dry meat curry were absolutely delicious, and the side of morning glory was fresh, vibrant, and perfectly cooked. Loving the new restaurant space – it’s modern, welcoming, and a great reflection of owner Nurul’s passion. It was also lovely to see how the renovations are progressing next door. Me and Jo are already looking forward to our next visit. This was the first time I had dined at Rice Thai since the new part of the restaurant had opened. Was the food as good as the new renovated Rice Thai? Well the answer is a resounding yes! The food was excellent and plentiful and at a reasonable price too. The service, after a slow start was prompt and welcoming. We ordered the mixed starter for 2 which I would highly recommend if its your first time visiting Rice Thai, you can't really go wrong as there's a little something on the plate for everyone to enjoy. We ordered for our main meal the Pad Prik Thai Dam which is, succulent flavoursome, Stir fried topside of beef with crushed black peppercorn, mixed vegetables. We also ordered to go alongside this, the Pad Si Eiw, which was delicious, flat rice noodles wok fried with mixed vegetables and dark soy sauce, dry chilli flakes on side with Tiger Prawns which were cooked perfectly, with a side dish of Stir fried Pak Choi with fried rice. Wonderful experience, fantastic food.
